What's new
Lighter, release by release.
Featherweight Dictation updates itself, so you're always on the newest one.
- 0.8.2October 7, 2026
- The Get unlimited button shows the current price.
- 0.8.1October 5, 2026
- A lighter, calmer look: flat surfaces, softer colours, and lilac where there was a lot of green.
- Home shows your week in pages: a page for every 250 words, and the typing time you saved.
- The first-run guide now shows you the pill: click it to talk, drag it anywhere, right-click to hide it.
- The things you can say, as a tidy list.
- 0.8.0October 5, 2026
- The pill, your way: twelve themes, from quiet paper to a sleepy cat that wakes up when you talk, an owl that opens its eyes and a rocket whose flame grows with your voice.
- Between dictations a thin line rests on screen, so you always know it's ready. Drag it anywhere, choose how faint it is, or switch it off.
- Click the line to start talking and click again to finish. Esc cancels.
- A page for each thing: Home, Pill, Dictation, Dictionary, Account and Help.
- Dictionary: add names and words, and they come out spelled your way.
- And the app got lighter: about 3.7 MB on your Mac.
- 0.7.2October 4, 2026
- A short email on Mondays with last week's words and the time you saved, at 9 in the morning where you are. One click turns it off.
- 0.7.1October 4, 2026
- A new icon: a butterfly made of two leaves, in the Dock and in the menu bar.
- 0.7.0October 4, 2026
- A home for the app: open Featherweight Dictation to see today's words, the time you've saved, your plan and your settings, all in one window.
- The menu bar panel has a fresh look to match, with a button that opens the home window.
- 0.6.7October 4, 2026
- A cleaner icon: the key's face fills the whole icon, with no frame around it.
- 0.6.6October 4, 2026
- The new icon takes up less room, so the app stays as small as before.
- 0.6.5October 4, 2026
- A new icon: a key with sound bars, for the key you hold to talk.
- The menu bar shows the sound bars too.
- 0.6.4October 3, 2026
- Choose your microphone from the menu bar.
- Automatic uses your Mac's own microphone when Bluetooth headphones are connected, so your words come out clearer.
- 0.6.3October 3, 2026
- Short dictations land faster: the app no longer makes your words wait behind its own connection check.
- 0.6.2October 3, 2026
- Choose the language you dictate in, from 25, in the welcome guide or any time from the menu bar. English stays the default.
- 0.6.1October 3, 2026
- A fresh look: the welcome guide now matches featherweightsoftware.com, with the doodles and colours you know from the site.
- The app has its new icon, the lilac quill.
- 0.6.0October 3, 2026
- Your words arrive faster: the app sends your voice while you talk, so the text is ready a fraction of a second after you let go.
- Say a correction out loud, like "two weeks, oh no, one week", and only the corrected words are typed.
- 0.5.1October 2, 2026
- Sign-in comes back to the app on its own link, and updates arrive from download.featherweightsoftware.com.
- 0.5.0October 2, 2026
- Featherweight Dictation now has its own identity on your Mac, and its folder is named Featherweight Dictation.
- After the update, sign in once more and allow the microphone and accessibility again. macOS asks because, to it, this is a new app. Your account, plan and settings carry over.
- 0.4.1October 2, 2026
- Finder and Launchpad show the new name, and the app gets ready for its own identity.
- 0.4.0October 2, 2026
- A new name, Featherweight Dictation, with the quill as its icon and in the menu bar.
- Sign-in and your account live at dictation.featherweightsoftware.com.
- Your account, settings, Macs and plan carry over; the update installs itself.
- 0.3.0October 1, 2026
- A short welcome guide walks a new Mac through signing in, the two permissions and a first try.
- A new menu bar icon, with a small dot when the app needs you.
- Use it on more than one Mac, each with its own sign-out on the website.

- Sign in on the website, with a free trial and then a monthly plan for unlimited dictation.
- Runs on Intel Macs as well as Apple silicon.

- 0.1.0October 1, 2026
- The first version: hold fn, talk, let go.
