Wispr Flow vs Featherweight Dictation

The best-known AI dictation app, on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android.

The short answer. Both work the same way: hold fn, talk, let go, and clean text lands in any app. Wispr Flow does more (phones, editing by voice, meeting notes) and costs less: $12 to $15 a month after its free 2,000 words a week. Featherweight Dictation does the dictation, unlimited for $19 a month, in a native app that takes 4.6 MB on your Mac, where Wispr Flow's Electron app takes 535 MB.

Sizes measured October 1, 2026, as installed, from each app's own download. The rest as listed on each maker's website on October 3, 2026.

Why people pick Featherweight Dictation

  • 4.6 MB on your Mac against 535 MB: one native process at 0% CPU at rest, where Wispr Flow runs on Electron with four helper apps
  • Your audio and your words are never stored. (Wispr Flow lets you turn off the use of your data to improve its models; it's on by default on its Free and Pro plans.)
  • The same key: you hold fn in both, so the habit carries over

Where Wispr Flow is ahead

  • Apps for iPhone and Android too
  • Command Mode: edit or reply to text by voice
  • A meeting notetaker, on Mac and Windows
  • Snippets and a personal dictionary
  • A free plan with 2,000 words a week on desktop
  • Costs less: Pro is $12 to $15 a month

Choose it if you also dictate on iPhone or Android, or want to edit text by voice and take meeting notes.
