FeatherweightThis Privacy Policy explains how Mockello ("we," "us"), a partnership firm based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, handles personal data when you use Featherweight Dictation: the Mac and Windows apps, the website at featherweightsoftware.com and your account (together, the "Service"). Featherweight is a brand of Mockello.
1. In short
- Your voice becomes text, and that's all. The app listens only while you hold your key. Your speech is turned into text securely and comes straight back to your computer.
- We never store your audio or your words.
- We keep a little about you: your account details, your computers, your plan, and usage numbers such as how many words you dictate.
- We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
- You're in control. Sign out a computer or cancel any time from your account page, and ask us to delete your account whenever you like.
2. What we collect
- Account details: your email, your name if you give one, and the answers you give when you sign up.
- Your computers: each computer's name and app version, and a private identifier we use to give one free trial per computer.
- Usage: numbers about your dictation, such as how many words you dictate and how long you speak, and basic technical information that helps us keep the Service working. Never what you say.
- Your plan and payments: your trial, plan and subscription status. Payments are handled by our payment partner, which receives your payment details directly. We never see your full card number.
- Website visits: simple counts of the pages people visit, without advertising or tracking cookies.
Your voice: while you hold the key, the app records from your microphone and sends the recording to be turned into text. It's used only for that, and neither the recording nor the text is kept. We don't use your audio or your words to train AI.
3. How we use it
To run the Service and your account, turn your speech into text, manage your trial and plan, show you how much time you save, send service emails (and update emails if you choose them), keep the Service secure and reliable, improve it, and meet our legal duties.
Where the law asks for a legal basis, we rely on our contract with you, our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving the Service, your consent (for update emails and the permissions you grant on your computer), and our legal obligations.
4. Who helps us
Trusted service providers help us run Featherweight Dictation: hosting, sign-in, payments, email and the AI that turns speech into text. Each receives only what it needs to do its job, under agreements that protect your data. We may also share data when the law requires it, to protect people or the Service, or as part of a merger or sale with appropriate safeguards.
5. Where it's processed
We're based in India, and our providers may process data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. Where required, we use lawful safeguards for these transfers.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account and usage records while your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data, except what the law requires us to keep, such as billing records. Backup copies expire after a short time.
7. Your choices and rights
You can sign out any computer or cancel your subscription from your account page, withdraw the app's permissions in System Settings on a Mac or Settings on Windows, and stop update emails at any time.
You can also ask to see, correct or delete your personal data, or withdraw a consent you gave, by emailing hello@featherweightsoftware.com. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, including to complain to your data-protection authority. We'll never treat you differently for using them.
In India: our Grievance Officer acknowledges grievances within 48 hours and aims to resolve them within one month, as Indian law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, provides.
8. Security
We protect your data with encryption and strict access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your computer and email account safe too. If a breach ever affects your data, we'll tell you as the law requires.
9. Children
Featherweight Dictation is for people aged 18 or older, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.
10. Changes
If we change this Policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date above. For important changes, we'll let you know.
